Kathryn Chinn

After graduating from high school, I attended Seattle University for one quarter and then transferred to the University of Washington where I graduated from a B.A. in Communications in 1980.I also have a J.D. from the University of Puget Sound School of Law, which become Seattle University School of Law, and an LLM in taxation from Boston University.I am an inactive member of the Washington State Bar Association. I passed the CPA in 1986, the last year the exam was offered without any accounting prerequisites, but did take a few accounting classes at Seattle University after I passed the CPA exam.

During college days, I worked various jobs, and was involved with the UW Asian Student Association, and wrote for the International Examiner and Beacon Hill newspapers.

I interned at a public defender agency during law school. After graduation, I was briefly a member of the Asian Bar Association of Washington.

In Boston, I worked at a tax firm, and as a banquet server at the Copley Place Marriott.I had a great time traveling around the east coast, including numerous trips to New York City where my sister, Karen, was then living.

I have worked at Boeing for over 30 years, mostly in Corporate Tax and various finance positions (financial planning, property accounting, system manager, systems integration and support).

I married Greg Dea (Franklin Class of 75) in 1990, and have 2 daughters, Micaela and Isabel.Micaela, age 23, graduated from WSU Honors College with a B.S. in Biochemistry, and is currently attending UW Dental School.Isabel, age 20, is a rising junior at San Diego State University.

Before my empty nester years, my volunteer activities revolved around kids and included:Girl Scout leader and cookie mom, dance parent booster club, SASC basketball team parent, skating test chair and competition volunteer, Bellevue HS cheer booster club, Newport HS Drill booster club officer (my kids attended different schools as Isabel was in the Spanish immersion program), and various fundraising activities. We enjoyed ski trips to Canada and Oregon, and trips to sunny places like California, Hawaii and Florida.

Currently an empty nester, I have been involved with church activities such as small group and feeding the homeless, home projects, and visiting San Diego as often as possible.

My mother still lives on Beacon Hill.  Sister, Karen (FHS Class of 77) passed away in 2003 of cancer, and leaves behind one daughter.  Brother Kenneth (FHS Class of 78) is married with 3 kids and is retired after 35 years with Boeing.  Sister, Karri (FHS Class of 80) is married with 2 daughters, and is a doctor at UW Physicians.
